Overview

In this role you will provide specialist earthing design engineering within Arcadis’ Energy Networks and Renewable team, ensuring safety and compliance for substation operatives. You will deliver earthing studies, EMF calculations, EMI mitigation, and lightning protection, collaborating across project teams to meet budgets and schedules. You’ll assess risks, propose mitigations, and support junior staff while engaging with stakeholders. This position offers exposure to high‑voltage substations and a chance to contribute to sustainable energy projects at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist earthing design engineering and solutions using the CDEGS software suite
  • Carry out earthing system measurements for substations up to 400 kV AC and other EHV installations
  • Perform Electric and Magnetic Field (EMF) calculations for EHV assets
  • Design lightning protection systems
  • Conduct Electromagnetic Interference studies and mitigation design
  • Manage multiple earthing design projects within budget and timescales
  • Collaborate with the substation detailed design team to ensure design integrity
  • Lead the creation of competitive proposals/quotations for new work
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to junior team members

Key requirements

  • BSc/BEng/BEng (Hons) or MSc/MEng in a relevant discipline
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards
  • Experience supervising elements of large, complex projects
  • Working knowledge of earthing system measurements
  • Extensive experience with CDEGS for earthing analysis
  • Experience with earthing issues and standards for 400 kV power networks
  • Strong communication of complex technical issues to peers or senior managers
  • Ability to build working relationships quickly
  • Experience in writing clear documentation
  • Flexibility to travel within the UK and overseas
