Overview

As a Senior Project Controls Engineer you will lead cross‑discipline controls teams on medium risk/complexity projects and contribute to higher‑risk portfolios. You’ll define scope, establish robust baselines, and ensure integrated scope, cost, risk and schedule delivery. You’ll work with the Integrated Project Team to govern change, analyse performance data, and support delivery decisions. This role combines governance, data insight, and mentoring within a defence‑oriented programme environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross‑discipline project controls on medium risk/complexity projects or contribute to higher risk programmes
  • Define scope with exclusions, interfaces and dependencies and decompose into a Work Breakdown Structure
  • Establish robust Performance Measurement Baseline and manage change control
  • Collaborate with suppliers to integrate performance data per contractual requirements
  • Ensure alignment of scope, cost, risk and schedule
  • Analyse performance data (Earned Value Management) to inform decisions
  • Liaise with Finance to generate cost and forecast profiles
  • Manage risk identification, quantification, treatment and oversight
  • Support resource deployment in line with resource‑loaded schedules
  • Establish governance processes for auditable decision making
  • Assure quality and integrity of outputs from the Project Controls team
  • Build strong relationships for delivery recovery and stakeholder communication
  • Promote learning from experience and influence process improvements
  • Mentor and coach team members for capability development

Key requirements

  • Proven track record delivering projects in highly regulated sectors such as defence or infrastructure
  • Experience across a significant portion of the project lifecycle
  • Experience in two or more Project Controls disciplines (Planning and Scheduling, Cost Estimation, Cost Control, Risk Management or Performance Reporting) and familiarity with their software/tools
  • Good understanding of Integrated Project Controls operation
  • Proactive, curious, can‑do attitude; comfortable in uncertain environments
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence outcomes
  • Commitment to empowerment, team contribution and community building
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant technical or management field or suitable equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
  • Ability to make risk‑based decisions with unclear parameters; adaptable leadership style
  • Competence with the software tools required for the role
