Overview

In this Software Safety Engineer role, you assess software safety for medical devices within a fast-growing certification-focused team. You will review software life cycles and technical documentation, identify risks, and help shape AI-assisted workflows to surface inconsistencies. You collaborate with product, engineering and ML teams to refine assessment tools and support regulatory decisions. Your work helps bring safe medical technology to patients faster while upholding the safety bar. This is a pivotal position in a company expanding internationally and building new certification approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Assess software lifecycle processes and technical documentation
  • Evaluate software safety, risks, gaps and inconsistencies in evidence
  • Review software verification and validation activities and supporting evidence
  • Apply software engineering and safety-critical experience to certification assessments
  • Monitor regulatory insights from research, standards and guidance
  • Use AI-assisted tools to investigate evidence and develop assessment questions
  • Collaborate with product, engineering and ML teams to improve assessment workflows
  • Contribute to expanding into new jurisdictions and certification frameworks
  • Create clear content explaining complex technical and regulatory topics
  • Provide technical and regulatory insight to customers during certification

Key requirements

  • Degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • 4+ years’ experience in medical device or other safety-critical product environment
  • 2+ years’ experience developing safety-critical software
  • Experience with software development lifecycle processes
  • Experience with software verification and validation testing
  • Experience with software configuration management
  • Experience with cybersecurity
  • Strong technical judgement and ability to understand complex software systems and identify safety risks
