Overview

In this role you will design, develop and optimize high-performance Java applications within a fast-growing financial services tech environment. You will work with the JVM to improve performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed systems, collaborating closely with engineers and product teams. This is an opportunity to shape the technology platform as the business scales and to tackle technically challenging problems. You will operate in a hybrid London setting, contributing to engineering standards and continuous improvement while delivering robust production-grade code.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-performance Java applications
  • Optimize and scale JVM-driven applications
  • Develop distributed, highly available systems
  • Investigate and resolve complex performance issues
  • Contribute to system architecture and technical design decisions
  • Write clean, production-quality code
  • Collaborate with engineers, product teams and stakeholders
  • Contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement
  • Support evolution and scaling of the technology platform

Key requirements

  • Strong commercial Java development experience
  • Deep understanding of the JVM and Java runtime
  • Experience building high-performance or distributed systems
  • Knowledge of concurrency, memory management and performance tuning
  • Experience with modern software development practices and CI/CD
  • Strong software architecture and design principles
  • Financial Services experience (desirable)
  • Experience in a high-growth/scale-up environment (advantageous)
