Consultant Transport Planner

Overview

In this role you help shape transport planning studies and business cases within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You will support strategic studies, stakeholder engagement, and the delivery of high-quality analyses to inform decisions and bids. The position offers growth through training, diverse projects, and opportunities to influence regional transport outcomes. You’ll work across frameworks and client interfaces, contributing to AECOM’s mission to deliver sustainable infrastructure at scale. This role combines technical delivery with client-facing and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of transport strategies, scheme appraisal and/or business case development
• Provide support to graduates and apprentices
• Deliver in-person presentations/workshops to local internal and external stakeholder groups
• Produce high-quality analysis and outputs within time and budget across projects
• Contribute to innovation and growth of AECOM’s regional transport presence
• Support bids to win work with existing and new clients
• Manage time to meet deadlines

Key requirements

• Master in Engineering
• Membership of or working towards chartered professional institution (CIHT or TPS)
• Experience in transport strategy, planning and/or business case development
• Analytical background with understanding of transport planning methods and best practices
• Inquisitive mindset, excellent communication, consultancy environment experience
• Team player with ability to work across disciplines and geographies
• Adaptability to a wide range of projects including Development Planning and Spatial Planning
• Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders and to facilitate in-person meetings
• Flexibility to travel to other offices or sites
