Senior Data Visualisation Engineer

Overview

In this role you will bridge data engineering, product design, and editorial storytelling to turn complex global trade data into accessible, visually compelling narratives. You will work autonomously to push visual communication boundaries and deliver interactive experiences that empower market participants. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to set visual standards, mentor peers, and raise the bar for data storytelling across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to shape how insights are presented in a fast-paced, data-rich environment.

Responsibilities

• Identify data-driven narratives from commodity, maritime, and geopolitical datasets
• Create end-to-end visual stories across interactive, static, and animated formats
• Query, validate, and defend complex datasets using SQL and Python
• Prototype interactive data tools using JavaScript/TypeScript and AI-assisted workflows
• Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, market analysts, and designers
• Elevate visualization standards by refining workflows and mentoring peers

Key requirements

• 7–10 years in data journalism, information design, visual storytelling, or related quantitative field
• Proven ability to query, interrogate, and validate complex datasets with SQL, Python, or similar tools
• Strong spatial analysis skills with GIS technologies
• Technical proficiency in modern web technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript) and front-end frameworks
• Exceptional visual communication with a portfolio demonstrating data-driven storytelling
• Ability to work autonomously and influence cross-functional teams
• Familiarity or interest in global commodities, energy markets, or maritime transport (nice-to-have)
