Overview

As Senior Project Engineer on the Washwood Heath Depot programme, you act as the client-side technical lead across design and construction for a complex rail development. You coordinate design and build activities, manage interfaces and contractor queries, and keep system integration on track through design, construction, testing and handover. You work across disciplines to route issues and enable progress, not as a manager but as a technical facilitator within a large-scale infrastructure programme. This role offers exposure to multi-disciplinary engineering in a major rail project with long delivery horizons and substantial impact on the rail network.

Pay / Benefits

  • Salary: 66000 – 77000 per annum
  • Pension 12%
  • Hybrid (3 days office)

Responsibilities

  • Act as the contractor’s primary technical contact for the programme and coordinate design and construction assurance across depot scope
  • Manage interfaces between depot contracts and wider railway systems works and ensure technical requirements are understood and evidenced at each stage gate
  • Review and respond to contractor technical queries; support issue resolution and change management
  • Coordinate technical risk with SMEs to develop solutions when issues arise
  • Carry out NEC3 Supervisor duties and support Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM Regulations 2015 within scope
  • Balance technical requirements with cost and programme pressures and communicate clearly with contractors and internal stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Background in project engineering on major infrastructure programmes
  • Experience in roles close to client function or as Design Manager, Client Representative Engineer, or Delegated Project Engineer
  • Ability to coordinate across disciplines and manage contractor relationships with confidence
  • Experience across design and construction on complex, multi-disciplinary programmes
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations 2015, NEC3 contract administration and UK railway technical standards
  • Knowledge of railway systems interfaces and potentially safety risk assessment workflows
  • Experience across more than one lifecycle phase (design through commissioning)
  • Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration
