Overview
In this field-embedded role, you support geotechnical field operations, instrumentation, and laboratory testing across mine sites and civil earthworks. You’ll work with a team to monitor earth structures, collect data, and ensure safety and quality on-site, on schedule, and on budget. The position combines field, lab, and site-based analysis, offering hands-on problem solving and exposure to diverse geotechnical challenges. You’ll contribute to safe, reliable earthwork projects and learn to manage complex field instrumentation and testing.

Responsibilities
- Operate in Civil Field Technologist, Instrumentation Monitor, and Materials Testing Technician roles as required
- Adhere to HSE policies and lead safety-focused routines and tailgate meetings
- Monitor geotechnical parameters and perform soil sampling/compaction testing with nuclear gauge
- Interpret IFC drawings and specifications; manage data, QA/QC, and documentation
- Maintain and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Take readings from piezometers, inclinometers, standpipes, and related sensors; perform hydrogeological field testing
- Collect and process soil and groundwater samples; ensure proper chain of custody
- Engage with stakeholders and coordinate field activities across remote mine sites and projects
Key requirements
- Post-Secondary Technical Diploma in geotechnical/geological/civil/mining disciplines
- 5+ years’ geotechnical laboratory and/or field testing experience
- ASET registration or ability to register (C.Tech./T.T./C.E.T.); ASTTBC asset considered
- CCIL certification for soils, concrete, asphalt is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with clean abstract; Varies by location
- Proficiency with geotechnical testing equipment and data logging; Microsoft Office
- HSE awareness and ability to work in remote environments; drug/alcohol testing and background checks may apply
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
