Overview
As a Senior M&E Designer, you will shape and deliver safe, compliant building services designs for refurbishments, upgrades and new builds across our national estate. You work closely with project teams to turn concepts into practical, cost-effective designs that keep buildings running smoothly. You’ll contribute through site surveys, design documentation and technical input across procurement, installation and commissioning. This role sits at the heart of our in-house design transformation, enabling smarter, value-driven delivery. You will be on site, tackling real challenges and helping shape scalable, future-ready solutions for our properties.

Responsibilities
- Deliver M&E design solutions from concept through to handover
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility checks and inspections
- Create design documents, drawings, specifications and scopes for tenders
- Provide technical support across procurement, design development, installation and commissioning
- Ensure designs are safe, compliant and aligned with standards and project requirements
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support in-house delivery
- Coordinate with project teams to meet timelines and budgets
- Contribute technical input for reports, risks and progress updates
- Foster strong relationships with internal teams, contractors and supply chain
- Support testing, commissioning, validation and handovers
Key requirements
- Solid technical knowledge of building services (HVAC, power, lighting, fire systems, controls)
- Strong understanding of construction safety and CDM 2015
- Experience producing design documents, specifications and reports
- Experience with CAD tools and technical calculations
- Good negotiation and influencing skills
- Experience in M&E design (consultancy, contractor or client-side)
- Practical experience in industrial, commercial or operational buildings
- Experience supporting installation, testing and commissioning
