Overview

As a Field Service Engineer (Electrical) in Hitachi Energy’s Transformers unit, you will deliver electrical installation, testing and commissioning on customer sites across the UK. You’ll work with a team to ensure safe, high-quality service and contribute to service growth through practical solutions for critical energy infrastructure. This is a mobility‑driven role with frequent travel and overnight stays, offering hands‑on impact on projects and customer satisfaction. You will help shape safer, more reliable transformer services while representing Hitachi Energy on site.

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, gland, dress and terminate LV cabling for large transformers and equipment
  • Wiring of panels, marshalling kiosks, control cabinets and auxiliary circuits
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and specs to ensure correct installation
  • Perform electrical testing, fault finding, and commissioning of transformer control and auxiliary systems
  • Support commissioning projects with continuity and insulation resistance testing
  • Lead site activities under the Project Manager, ensuring safety, efficiency and customer alignment
  • Maintain project documentation, commissioning checklists and service reports
  • Develop positive customer relationships and identify service opportunities
  • Apply safety rules and proactive hazard mitigation on site

Key requirements

  • recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or City & Guilds qualification or equivalent
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) qualification essential
  • proven experience as Electrician/Wireman/Electrical Field Service Engineer
  • experience with installation, termination and testing of control, instrumentation and power cabling
  • experience with panel wiring, control systems, switchgear, transformers or substations
  • ability to read electrical drawings and engineering documentation
  • driving licence (Full UK)
  • experience leading site teams or coordinating subcontractors is desirable
  • basic mechanical knowledge of transformer equipment advantageous
  • site safety qualifications (IPAF, PASMA, CCNSG, CSCS) beneficial (training provided)
