Director, Commercial Finance

Overview

In this role you will lead the Commercial (Finance) Operations team, shaping account management and financial support for client opportunities. You will hire, coach, and manage staff while guiding pricing, RFP/budget processes, and RFI responses to support strategic client wins. You will maintain strong sponsor relationships and participate in governance forums to drive department goals. Responsibilities

• Oversee hiring, training, evaluation, and retention of staff within Commercial (Finance) Operations; directly manage a team
• Oversee development of fee estimates for RFPs, budget revisions, and contract amendments
• Provide strategic financial input to RFIs in collaboration with other team members
• Maintain low staff turnover (<7%)
• Review analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to track progress toward goals
• Evaluate ongoing capacity needs and coordinate workload efficiently
• Serve as key relationship manager for Sponsor and act as escalation point for sponsor and internal team
• Participate in client steering committee
• Monitor and optimize departmental processes and timelines

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting; MBA preferred
• At least 8 years of experience in contract management and pricing within pharmaceutical or clinical research
• Excellent understanding of financial and accounting processes; strong analytical and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of drug development services and medical terminology
• Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
