Overview

As Construction Manager for the Otterbourne Water Supply Works upgrade, you will lead on-site delivery of a major water infrastructure programme. You will work directly with the Project Manager to ensure safe, on-time and high-quality execution within budget, while upholding safety, environmental and sustainability standards. You’ll drive constructability, rehearsals and sign-offs, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to shape delivery at a critical site between Southampton and Winchester.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site construction teams to deliver works safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Run project kick-off meetings and regular health checks
  • Oversee supplier performance across safety, time, and quality
  • Review and approve RAMS ensuring robustness and regulatory compliance
  • Lead constructability reviews, project rehearsals, and fit-for-assembly sign-off
  • Introduce innovative construction methods to improve outcomes and efficiency
  • Champion sustainability initiatives (zero waste, embodied carbon reduction)
  • Raise contractual/commercial notices promptly and accurately
  • Collaborate with Lead Construction Manager to plan labour, plant, and materials
  • Foster a positive safety culture and empower issue reporting
  • Work effectively within Joint Venture environments

Key requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a Construction-related discipline
  • APMP or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive experience delivering large-scale construction programmes
  • Water/wastewater treatment industry experience
  • Strong project and programme management capability
  • Temporary Works experience and/or relevant qualification
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction health & safety
  • Experience managing and monitoring project programmes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong relationship-building with clients, stakeholders and end users
  • Delivery-focused with ability to set, drive and achieve targets
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams
  • Commercial awareness and strong strategic, operational and technical leadership skills
