Mechanical Quantity Surveyor – Oxfordshire

Overview

In this role you will lead cost strategy for a high-value 50m+ project in the advanced manufacturing and life sciences sector, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting and value for money. You will collaborate with the Regional Commercial Lead to drive mechanical package procurement, contract administration, and risk/change control, while mentoring junior team members. The position sits within a capable project team focused on delivery, collaboration and smart project governance. This is an opportunity to shape cost management on complex builds and gain exposure to cutting-edge facilities.

Responsibilities

• Cost planning, CVRs and forecasts to keep budgets on track
• Lead mechanical package procurement and subcontractor evaluation
• Maintain risk registers and manage changes
• Review and negotiate NEC/JCT contracts and administer contract obligations
• Prequalify and manage supply chain with local mechanical subcontractors
• Collaborate with project leads and clients to ensure smooth delivery

Key requirements

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar (RICS/CIOB a plus)
• Strong knowledge of JCT D&B and NEC contracts
• Solid mechanical services experience (pipework, plantrooms, pressure testing)
• Mentor mindset and ability to develop others
• Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with SAP, COINS, ORACLE, CostX, Bluebeam or PowerBI
