Overview

As Principal/Associate Technical Director in Arcadis’ Environmental Planning team, you will lead environmental and consenting work on diverse energy, infrastructure, and development projects in Scotland. You will shape multi-disciplinary delivery, building strong client relationships and expanding our environmental portfolio. You’ll work with specialists across the UK and beyond to secure opportunities and deliver compliant, sustainable outcomes. This role offers impact through navigating planning processes, advising clients, and driving high-quality environmental design at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver planning and environmental work across multidisciplinary teams, guiding project development within UK planning and law
  • Drive business development, create project opportunities, and lead delivery in collaboration with sub consultants
  • Raise awareness of services, win new opportunities, and build contacts
  • Manage client relationships and act as a role model to generate cross-selling opportunities
  • Engage with consultees and stakeholders
  • Oversee project performance across technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety aspects
  • Collaborate with Arcadis colleagues globally

Key requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental and consenting processes (EIA practices, case law) and environmental technical specialisms
  • Experience across a range of project types
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and reviewer-management skills
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership with solid project management and technical abilities
  • Experience negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders
  • Commercial experience including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification; chartered status preferred
