In this role you will drive commercial decisions across a broad sports product portfolio for schools. You will partner with suppliers and internal teams to optimise ranges, pricing and availability, identify gaps, and push for new opportunities. Your work supports schools with high-quality sports education products while balancing profitability and stock. You will operate in a fast-paced environment, influencing range decisions and supplier relationships to shape the school sport offering. Responsibilities
- Manage a broad portfolio of sports and product categories
- Ensure ranges meet schools’ needs in products, brands, quality and price
- Review performance and decide on introduction, expansion, re-sourcing, promotion, clearance or discontinuation
- Identify gaps and explore new suppliers, brands, own-brand products and exclusive opportunities
- Build and run supplier reviews and negotiate costs, terms, rebates, and delivery
- Challenge underperforming pricing, quality, availability, or service
- Maintain forecasts and place purchase orders based on demand and lead times
- Monitor forward orders, stockouts, excess stock and delivery delays
- Review costs, selling prices and margins for competitiveness
- Watch competitor ranges and promotions to drive commercial actions
- Stay informed on school sport developments and customer requirements
- Ensure product information, pricing, images, and specs are accurate for website/catalogues
- Collaborate with suppliers, marketing, design and internal teams to meet deadlines
Key requirements
- Passion for sport and for improving PE in schools
- Commercial mindset with strong supplier handling and decision-making
- Proactive, organized and capable of challenging products, prices and processes
- Ability to translate data into clear commercial actions
- Experience in buying, category/product management or similar roles
- Strong supplier-management and negotiation experience
- Experience in forecasting, purchase ordering and stock management
- Understanding of pricing, margins and commercial performance
- Experience developing product ranges and identifying opportunities
- Strong analytical skills with sales, stock and market data
- Excellent communication, organization and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
