Solicitor – Contentious Construction – Cardiff – 4+ Years PQE

Overview

In this role you will handle high‑value contentious construction disputes within a leading UK law firm in Cardiff. You will work closely with cross‑practice teams to manage complex cases, draft and negotiate standard and bespoke contracts, and engage in adjudications, arbitrations and other dispute processes. You’ll contribute to business development and mentoring, shaping the firm’s construction offering. Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of contentious construction matters (breaches, professional negligence, delays)
• Draft and negotiate JCT, NEC, FIDIC and bespoke contracts
• Advise on procurement strategies, risk management, and regulatory compliance
• Represent clients in adjudications, arbitrations, mediations, and TCC litigation
• Collaborate with Real Estate, Banking, Corporate and Dispute Resolution teams
• Conduct legal research and manage case documentation
• Support business development and client relationship initiatives
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal training

Key requirements

• 4+ years PQE in construction law (UK-based)
• Strong experience in contentious construction matters
• Solid understanding of JCT, NEC, FIDIC contracts and related documentation
• Exposure to adjudication, arbitration, mediation, and TCC litigation
• Commercial awareness and pragmatic legal advice
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Proactive, team‑oriented with mentoring experience
