Overview
In this Senior Planner / Scheduler role within Stantec’s Energy & Resources team, you will own and optimize complex project schedules from concept to closeout. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to project teams, shaping execution strategies, spotting risks and opportunities, and informing critical decisions throughout the lifecycle. The role spans energy, mining, and infrastructure sectors, with international site travel. Responsibilities
- Lead development of integrated project schedules from concept through execution and closeout
- Develop engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup schedules using Primavera P6
- Set schedule logic, critical paths, milestones, constraints, and resources
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering leads, procurement, construction, contractors, and clients to build realistic plans
- Validate execution strategies and ensure alignment with scope and delivery
- Establish and maintain baseline schedules and schedule management plans
- Update schedules with actual progress and forecasts
- Perform critical path, float, productivity, and schedule performance analyses
- Identify schedule risks, constraints, and opportunities with mitigation strategies
- Conduct what-if analyses and scenario planning for alternative approaches
- Assess impacts of scope changes, delays, and risks on schedules
- Support change management through schedule impact assessments and recovery planning
- Coordinate with project controls, cost controls, and risk management for alignment
- Support earned value management, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting
- Develop progress measurement systems and reporting frameworks
- Participate in risk workshops and contribute schedule-related risk assessments and contingencies
- Facilitate schedule review meetings with teams, contractors, clients, and stakeholders
- Evaluate contractor and vendor schedules for compliance and constructability
- Prepare executive-level schedule reports, dashboards, forecasts, and presentations
- Clearly communicate schedule status, issues, risks, and actions to leadership
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners and schedulers
- Promote best practices in planning, scheduling, and project controls
- Contribute to improving scheduling standards, procedures, and tools
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Project Controls, or related discipline
- Minimum 10 years of planning and scheduling experience on large projects
- Experience in Energy & Resources projects (mining, power, transmission, renewables, industrial facilities, oil & gas, major infra)
- Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6
- Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project delivery processes
- Extensive knowledge of CPM scheduling, schedule development, and analysis techniques
- Experience developing schedules from early phases through execution and commissioning
