Overview

In this role you will shape market risk across SSE’s evolving energy portfolio, combining quantitative modelling, data leadership, and commercial partnership. You’ll lead a small team to build scalable risk capabilities and support decision-making across trading, generation, and energy products. You’ll engage with stakeholders and senior leadership to deliver robust risk insights in dynamic markets. This is a strategic role at the heart of SSE’s energy transition with a clear impact on risk management and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance quantitative market risk models translating trading strategies into risk metrics and controls
  • Oversee risk data infrastructure and analytical pipelines ensuring high-quality, timely risk reporting
  • Collaborate with Front Office and commercial teams to support new trading strategies and energy products
  • Manage and develop a team of analysts, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Communicate complex market risk concepts clearly to stakeholders including senior leadership and risk committees

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience building quantitative risk models in energy, commodities, or financial markets with knowledge of power and gas markets
  • Advanced Python and data analysis skills; experience with SQL, PySpark, or cloud-based platforms
  • Proficiency in stochastic modelling, simulation methods, and time series analysis
  • Experience working with trading desks and commercial stakeholders in fast-paced markets
  • Strong people leadership, relationship-building, and clear communication skills
