About

LCMB is a specialist building performance consultancy advising high-profile organisations on estates strategy, facilities management transformation, net zero delivery and major capital programmes.

Our work helps universities, NHS organisations, commercial property owners and public sector clients improve how their buildings are operated, maintained and developed. We combine technical expertise with commercial insight to help clients make better decisions and deliver lasting improvements across their estates.

We are looking for an experienced professional to join our Facilities Management team as a Consultant. This is an opportunity to work on varied, high-profile commissions, take ownership of defined projects and workstreams, and develop towards a Senior Consultant role.

Role

You will manage and contribute to facilities management consultancy commissions that help clients improve operational performance, reduce costs, strengthen compliance and plan for the future.

You will be given meaningful responsibility, but you will not be expected to work without support. An experienced senior colleague will provide oversight of your commissions, regular guidance and constructive feedback. Your responsibilities will increase in line with your capability, confidence and experience.

We will work with you to identify your development priorities and provide opportunities to strengthen your consulting, project management, commercial and technical skills. This may include mentoring, project-based coaching, formal training and support towards relevant professional qualifications.

You will be supported to work with increasing independence, exercise sound judgement and build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will also learn from experienced colleagues, contribute to the development of junior team members and help improve LCMB’s consultancy services.

Your work will include:

  • Managing defined consultancy commissions and project workstreams from planning through to completion
  • Agreeing project objectives, deliverables, responsibilities, programmes and reporting arrangements
  • Gathering, validating and analysing data relating to assets, compliance, service performance, contracts and costs
  • Translating analysis and operational evidence into clear findings, options and practical recommendations
  • Producing high-quality reports, business cases, spreadsheets and presentations for senior client audiences
  • Delivering facilities management reviews, transformation programmes, procurement exercises and mobilisation projects
  • Planning and leading client meetings, interviews and workshops, and ensuring decisions and actions are followed through
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, programmes, milestone trackers, risk and issue logs, and action plans
  • Monitoring progress, budgets and resources, and escalating risks, issues, changes or delays when required
  • Coordinating input from clients, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders
  • Reviewing facilities management contracts, specifications, performance information and operating arrangements
  • Visiting client sites to gather evidence, assess building operations and engage with operational teams
  • Preparing project documentation, including procurement, mobilisation, governance, handover and change-control information
  • Managing project records, document registers and version-controlled information
  • Supporting proposals, fee estimates and the development of new client opportunities
  • Reviewing the work of junior colleagues and providing practical guidance and support

About you

This role is likely to suit someone with approximately 3–6 years’ relevant experience, although we are more interested in your capability, achievements and potential than a specific number of years. The level of appointment and responsibility will reflect the successful candidate’s experience.

We recognise that strong candidates may not meet every criterion. If you can demonstrate relevant capability and believe you could succeed in the role, we encourage you to apply.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant experience in facilities management, estates, property, building services, project management or management consultancy
  • A sound understanding of how buildings, facilities services and operational organisations work
  • Experience of managing projects or defined workstreams, including programmes, actions, risks and deliverables
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret operational, commercial and performance information
  • The ability to develop evidence-based findings and communicate practical recommendations
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Good written, verbal, facilitation and presentation skills
  • The confidence to engage effectively with operational teams, suppliers and senior stakeholders
  • The ability to manage several commissions, workstreams and priorities at the same time
  • Initiative, sound judgement and the ability to work independently while recognising when to seek support
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to support the development of less-experienced colleagues
  • A commitment to high-quality, accurate and well-organised work

A degree or equivalent qualification is preferred. Qualifications in facilities management, engineering, building services, property, surveying, project management or a related discipline would be advantageous. Relevant professional experience and evidence of the required capability will also be considered.

Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a relevant professional body would be beneficial but is not essential.

Why this role is different

You will work on projects that influence how some of the UK’s most significant estates are managed and developed. Rather than being limited to one site or discipline, you will gain experience across a wide range of sectors, organisations and operational challenges.

You will be given meaningful responsibility while receiving the support needed to succeed. You will work closely with experienced consultants who will provide regular mentoring, project-based coaching and constructive feedback. You will have opportunities to deepen your facilities management knowledge and develop your consulting, project management, commercial and client-facing skills.

Your development will be shaped around your existing experience and career ambitions. As your capability and confidence grow, you will take responsibility for larger and more complex commissions and have a clear opportunity to progress towards a Senior Consultant role.
