Quantity Surveyor (Main Contractor) | Permanent | Hertfordshire

Overview

In this role you join a long-standing family-run main contractor in Hertfordshire to manage commercial aspects on education, healthcare, residential and refurbishment projects up to £5m. You will forecast costs, track design changes, procure subcontractors, and value on-site work while handling extension of time letters. You’ll work closely with clients and project teams, building solid relationships and driving commercial decisions. This is an opportunity to shape project outcomes within a stable regional contractor that values experience and autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Forecast project costs and material requirements
• Track design changes and update budgets accordingly
• Procure or appoint contractors/subcontractors
• Measure and value on-site work
• Value subcontractors’ progress and invoices
• Liaise with clients and project professionals (Site Managers, Project Managers, Site Engineers)
• Prepare extension of time letters

Key requirements

• Experience with reputable Main Contractor
• Experience on new build and refurbishment projects across Education, Healthcare, Residential/Social Housing sectors
• Excellent all-round commercial skills
• Ability to work autonomously on projects
• Strong relationship and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to commute to Barnet, Hertfordshire
