Overview
As a Senior Interaction Designer, you shape how users interact with digital services, defining flows and interface patterns for usable, accessible experiences. You work in multidisciplinary teams to translate user needs into concrete interaction models, bridging design and engineering to ensure feasible, high-quality implementations. You contribute to design systems and scalable patterns, and you support end-to-end service design across journeys. Responsibilities
- Design interaction patterns, user flows, and interface behaviours for complex digital services
- Create high-fidelity prototypes to communicate logic and support delivery
- Define micro-interactions, system states, validation patterns, and edge cases
- Extend and contribute to design systems (GOV.UK) with reusable components
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure accessibility and performance
- Ensure designs meet WCAG 2.2 and responsive design principles
- Iterate interactions with user researchers and UX designers
- Contribute to end-to-end service design aligning journeys and touchpoints
- Maintain consistency via shared component libraries and design standards
- Document interaction specifications for development and handover
Key requirements
- Strong experience designing interactions for complex digital products in Agile environments
- Expertise in high-fidelity prototypes and interaction models using Figma (components and variants)
- Ability to design scalable, reusable patterns within design systems
- Experience with GOV.UK Design System or similar design systems
- Solid understanding of interaction design principles (usability, feedback, system behavior)
- Familiarity with front-end approaches including component-based development and JavaScript frameworks
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2) and practical application
- Excellent collaboration with developers and researchers in multidisciplinary teams
