Overview

In this role, you will lead a portfolio of UK Defined Benefit pension projects for large clients, guiding both client-facing and internal delivery. You’ll apply pensions expertise to GMP equalisation, buy‑in/out readiness, wind‑ups, and other change initiatives, collaborating with across‑team colleagues, actuaries, and external partners. You’ll shape project plans, governance, and risk management to ensure on‑time, on‑scope delivery. This is a dynamic, cross‑functional role with a clear career path and mentoring in a growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of pension change projects (GMP equalisation, Buy‑in/Buy‑out readiness, benefits rectification, scheme mergers, wind‑ups)
  • Develop and monitor detailed project plans and governance frameworks
  • Provide day‑to‑day project management and coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to hit milestones
  • Lead and document project calls, plan workshops, and drive high‑quality client delivery
  • Conduct ongoing project improvement reviews and ensure thorough tranche reviews at milestones
  • Maintain project documentation (risk logs, action plans, project plans)
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, clients, administrators, actuaries and external partners

Key requirements

  • Strong UK Defined Benefit pensions background
  • Knowledge of DB scheme operations, legislation and technical areas (GMP rectification/equalisation, Buy‑ins/Buy‑outs, wind‑ups)
  • Experience in actuarial project teams, pension administration projects or pensions consulting is advantageous
  • Proven project delivery and client-facing experience
  • Prince 2 or similar (APM, PMP, CSM) or willingness to obtain
  • Clear, concise communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience facilitating project meetings/workshops and note‑taking
  • Proactive, assertive management style to drive outcomes
