Application Upgrade & Automation Engineer

Overview

In this role you will drive upgrades, platform refreshes and automation initiatives for critical enterprise applications within a regulated financial environment. You will collaborate with application, infrastructure and engineering teams to keep systems secure, supported and aligned to roadmaps. The position blends Windows and Linux administration with automation, DevOps practices and continuous improvement to deliver scalable, compliant solutions. A strong focus is on reducing manual toil through automation and robust deployment pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute application upgrades, migrations and platform refresh activities
• Ensure vendor support and security compliance for applications
• Administer and support enterprise apps across Windows and Linux
• Troubleshoot application, middleware and infrastructure issues
• Create and maintain runbooks, procedures and documentation
• Identify and implement automation of manual operational processes
• Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible or similar
• Design, build and maintain CI/CD deployment pipelines
• Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps best practices across teams

Key requirements

• Experience administering enterprise applications on Windows and Linux
• Proven track record delivering upgrades, migrations and platform refresh programmes in production
• Scripting and automation in PowerShell, Bash, Python or similar
• Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management tool
• Strong knowledge of application servers, middleware and databases
• Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Experience in large-scale enterprise or regulated environments
