Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer leading HV transmission and distribution projects across Scotland. You will steer design, delivery, and technical leadership for substations, grid connections, and renewable energy integration, ensuring UK standards compliance. You’ll work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver high-impact infrastructure that supports a low-carbon energy transition. This role combines technical depth with leadership and project coordination to shape Scotland’s energy future.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering activities for 11kV–400kV transmission and distribution projects
- Deliver design packages for substations, grid connections, cables, and related infrastructure
- Provide technical oversight for HV plant design including transformers, switchgear, protection, and auxiliary systems
- Review and approve electrical calculations, specifications, drawings, and documentation
- Support multidisciplinary teams through feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover
- Interface with clients, utility providers, contractors, and regulators
- Ensure compliance with UK standards, Grid Code, and health & safety legislation
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development
- Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP, FAT/SAT, and commissioning support
- Support project planning, budgeting, risk management, and resource forecasting
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership
- 8–10 years of transmission and distribution or power infrastructure experience
- Strong knowledge of UK electrical standards and utility practices
- Experience with HV substation design and/or overhead line and cable systems
- Familiarity with protection and control philosophies, earthing, load flow, and short-circuit analysis
- Proficiency in ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, AutoCAD or equivalent
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland
