Principal Solar/ Electrical Engineer

Overview

As Principal Solar Electrical Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of solar PV projects across utility-scale and distributed generation. You will join a cross-functional Energy team and work on rooftop, carport, floating, and ground-mounted systems, including NSIPs, with potential battery storage. You’ll translate client needs into technically robust designs while upholding safety and standards. Responsibilities

• Design solar PV systems using PVSol, PVSyst, PVCase and other industry-standard tools
• Produce design layouts, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports for projects
• Conduct technical site surveys across the UK
• Attend client meetings, build relationships, and develop effective technical solutions
• Support the commercial team in technical submissions and tender documentation
• Uphold a strong health and safety culture across the business
• Maintain knowledge of latest electrical standards, codes, and industry best practices
• Demonstrate technical excellence and deliver high-quality project outcomes
• Apply BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and IET Code of Practice for Solar PV Installations throughout delivery

Key requirements

• Degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
• Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership
• Proven design, specification, and/or construction experience in solar PV projects in consultancy, EPC, or developer environments
• Strong understanding of solar PV systems and electrical infrastructure
• Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports and client-facing documentation
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices for solar PV installations
• Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers
• Ability to manage client relationships and provide technical leadership
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and deliverables
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
