Overview

In this Senior Consultant role, you will support the Development Team in Newcastle, delivering sustainable transport planning for development projects from site selection through planning approvals. You will advise private sector and local authorities on access, transport and infrastructure, working on multi-disciplinary schemes. You lead concept studies and planning applications while mentoring others, contributing to a cross-border portfolio across the UK and Ireland. Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver transport planning tasks for development proposals, including Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Parking Studies, and Access Studies
  • Provide day-to-day support and guidance to junior staff within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Manage client relationships and coordinate with planning, design, and environmental teams
  • Ensure projects meet budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements
  • Engage in high-profile client engagement and stakeholder management
  • Keep up-to-date with standards and policies and contribute to WSP profile through networking and conferences
  • Mentor and supervise technical staff across grades
  • Support project delivery from pre-feasibility to construction and post-permission activities

Key requirements

  • Numerate first degree in a relevant field (Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning)
  • Experience as lead client contact for consultancy services and building client relationships
  • Strong written communication for development proposals
  • Knowledge of transport planning guidance and best practice
  • Experience delivering transport planning projects across development planning, scheme delivery, sustainable transport and active travel
  • Working knowledge of junction modelling software (Junctions 9 and Linsig) and ability to mentor others
  • Strong numeracy, problem-solving, and innovative thinking
  • Experience in financial and programme management of projects
  • Team management responsibilities and understanding of contractual aspects of planning and bidding
