Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies for database, middleware and software
- Shape sourcing and supplier strategies aligned with roadmaps and market trends
- Optimize spend and simplify supplier landscape across the technology estate
- Inform investment and negotiation decisions using market intelligence and benchmarking
- Lead complex sourcing initiatives and high-value renewals with major tech vendors
- Manage licensing strategies, subscriptions and service models to maximize value
- Ensure contracts deliver flexibility, resilience and appropriate risk management
- Collaborate with engineering to evaluate technology options for sourcing decisions
- Build trusted relationships and act as commercial advisor for infrastructure software investments
- Drive governance, performance reviews and value realisation with suppliers
- Identify risks and implement pragmatic mitigation in commercial and licensing domains
- Support contract lifecycle management and procurement transformation initiatives
- Promote established sourcing and supplier management methodologies
Key requirements
- Significant experience in Technology Procurement, Category Management or Strategic Sourcing
- Proven track record negotiating complex software agreements and renewals with global suppliers
- Strong understanding of software licensing models (subscription, SaaS, perpetual, consumption-based)
- Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial strategies
- Strong influencing skills with senior engineering and business leaders
- Excellent analytical, negotiation and project management capabilities
- Experience in large, complex or highly regulated organisations
- Desirable: MCIPS or equivalent procurement qualification
- Experience with Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, TIBCO or similar enterprise software vendors
- Knowledge of software asset management and licence optimisation
- Experience managing contracts/suppliers in hybrid infrastructure environments
