Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer – Energy Solutions

Overview

In this role you support decarbonisation of buildings by designing private wire networks and low-carbon energy centres within WSP’s Energy Solutions team. You will collaborate with mechanical engineers and clients to deliver HV/LV electrical designs from feasibility to construction, and develop resilient infrastructure for district energy schemes. You’ll influence projects through surveys, calculations, drawings, and reports while mentoring junior engineers and maintaining strong client relationships. This is a hands-on, impact-focused opportunity to help shape decarbonisation across public and private sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical designs (11kV and LV) from feasibility through to construction
• Conduct site surveys and quality audits
• Meet with clients and contractors on project basis under guidance
• Produce engineering drawings, calculations, schedules, specifications and reports
• Survey existing facilities and develop resilient infrastructure upgrade strategies
• Prepare feasibility studies and technical reports
• Produce CDM risk assessments
• Review contractor design submissions
• Support and mentor junior engineers
• Coordinate with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships
• Ensure health and safety risks are identified and managed

Key requirements

• Relevant degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience or willingness to design HV and LV electrical systems
• CEng or IEng status desirable but not essential
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
