Overview
You will provide expert fire safety guidance across a diverse housing portfolio, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards and best practice. You’ll join a fire safety team focused on risk management, major projects, and stakeholder collaboration to deliver effective outcomes. You’ll design and deliver fire safety training to a wide audience, embedding a strong safety culture. This is a hands-on role with scope to influence policy, practice and resident safety in the borough.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert fire safety advice across a diverse housing portfolio to ensure regulatory compliance
- Lead or support major fire safety projects and work with contractors and stakeholders to deliver safe outcomes
- Assess complex fire safety issues on site and develop practical, risk-based solutions
- Develop and deliver fire safety training and awareness sessions for multiple teams and stakeholders
- Engage effectively with residents, contractors, regulators and internal teams to drive continuous improvement and a strong fire safety culture
- Support development of fire safety policies, guidance and governance within the council
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to embed fire safety across operations
- Contribute to on-site inspections and monitoring to maintain high safety standards
Key requirements
- Strong technical understanding of building construction and fire behavior
- Knowledge of BS 7974, Building Safety Act 2022, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Knowledge of current fire safety legislation, standards and guidance (including Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999)
- Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. GIFireE, MIFireE, MIFSM or equivalent)
- Minimum Level 4 Diploma (or equivalent) in fire safety and related qualifications
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in fire risk assessments and fire engineering matters
- DBS check required
