Overview

In this Finance Manager role, you will oversee the day-to-day finance function for an SME, delivering timely, accurate financial information to support the Managing Director and the wider business. You will blend hands-on accounting with management reporting and commercial analysis, influencing decisions and improving processes. You’ll manage budgeting, cash flow, controls, and statutory requirements, while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. This is a hands-on opportunity with scope to drive financial improvements and contribute to the company’s growth and evolution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts
  • Manage budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections
  • Provide clear management information and commercial insight to the MD
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts
  • Manage VAT, payroll, treasury and tax-related matters
  • Coordinate statutory accounts and liaise with external accountants/auditors
  • Improve financial processes, controls and reporting across the business
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and business improvement projects
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital
  • Stock reporting and accuracy of stock accounting

Key requirements

  • Strong grounding in management accounting and financial control
  • Experience in SME environment (preferred)
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or qualified by experience
  • Hands-on, detail-focused and high accuracy
  • Experience budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Good understanding of balance sheet controls and VAT
  • Commercial awareness and ability to communicate key messages clearly
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/financial reporting systems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with MD and colleagues
