Apply for the Senior Building Physics Engineer
Location: Bristol
Job Description:

Overview

In this Senior role, you will deliver expert building physics and energy modelling across UK projects, shaping design strategies and improving performance. You’ll work with cross-disciplinary teams to embed low-carbon principles and robust modelling into early design decisions. You’ll apply advanced simulations to optimise fabric, daylight, ventilation, and energy strategies, contributing to net-zero ambitions. This position combines hands-on technical delivery with mentoring and knowledge sharing to grow national capability from the Plymouth hub.

Responsibilities

  • Support building physics workstreams on complex projects (thermal, energy, daylight, overheating, natural ventilation, comfort analyses)
  • Develop and optimise energy strategies, TM54 assessments, and low-carbon design solutions
  • Advise on façade performance, passive design, solar control, and fabric optimisation
  • Ensure compliance with UK regulations (Part L, TM52/TM59, EPC) and contribute to BREEAM, WELL, or LEED credits
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and communicate findings to clients and design teams
  • Collaborate with MEP, architecture, sustainability and digital engineering teams to integrate building physics into design solutions
  • Influence early-stage design decisions (massing, orientation, glazing ratios, shading, ventilation feasibility)
  • Support development and adoption of digital modelling workflows and best practices
  • Mentor and share knowledge with graduates and junior engineers
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, technical workshops, and thought leadership

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in building physics, energy modelling, and performance analysis in a consultancy
  • Advanced proficiency with IES-VE (or equivalent) including complex simulation, calibration, and QA
  • Strong technical knowledge of passive design, low-carbon buildings, façade performance, and dynamic environmental behaviour
  • Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects and presenting technical information clearly to clients and teams
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Clear communication with clients and teams
  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • IES-VE (or equivalent)
  • Energy modelling and performance analysis
  • Passive design and low-carbon building knowledge
