Overview
Horizon Teachers are working with a specialist SEND school in North East London that is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Science Teacher to join their team on a long‑term basis from September. This is an exciting opportunity to teach Science in a highly supportive specialist setting, working with children and young people with visual impairments and a range of additional learning needs. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering an engaging, accessible, and inclusive Science curriculum that enables every student to achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons for students with visual impairments and additional SEND.
- Adapt teaching materials, practical activities, and assessments to ensure accessibility for all learners.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students can develop confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, specialist vision support staff, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor student progress and use assessment to inform personalised learning plans.
- Support students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development throughout their educational journey.
- Promote independence, resilience, and life skills while maintaining high expectations for all learners.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Have experience teaching Science at secondary level, ideally within a SEND or specialist education setting.
- Have knowledge or experience supporting students with visual impairments and additional learning needs, or demonstrate a strong willingness to develop these specialist skills.
- Be confident adapting lessons to meet a wide range of educational needs and learning styles.
- Demonstrate excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills.
- Be patient, resilient, and committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for young people with SEND.
- Pay scale M1‑M6 depending on experience.
- Enhanced DBS check required; provide original qualifications before placement.
