Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for an intelligence-led Trading Standards service aligned to council priorities and measurable outcomes
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement through data, technology, systems and processes
  • Protect communities by targeting high-risk areas using intelligence-led regulation
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams with accountability and collaboration
  • Support economic growth by helping compliant businesses thrive and partnering with local, regional and national entities
  • Ensure governance, lawful enforcement, and delivery of statutory duties while advocating the value of Trading Standards
  • Act as the Council’s Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures and shape service priorities

Key requirements

  • Recognised Trading Standards qualification (Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent)
  • Management/leadership qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 4 or willingness to work towards
  • Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary professional teams and performance management in regulatory services
  • Ability to manage conflict, make evidence-based decisions and drive service improvement
  • Strong strategic thinking to translate priorities into practical direction
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and partnership-working skills
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel as required
