Overview

In this role you lead the global web platform and engineering capability, shaping a unified, scalable web estate across brands. You will mentor a blended internal/external team and partner with Brand, Growth, Content, Product Marketing, and Technology to deliver a technically excellent and commercially effective digital presence. You’ll own the platform strategy and roadmap, drive a major web transformation, and ensure long-term sustainability beyond launch. Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a combined internal/external web engineering team focused on ownership and continuous improvement
  • Set technical direction, standards, and ways of working for web engineering
  • Plan and prioritise development capacity against business priorities
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to unblock delivery and guide architecture
  • Collaborate with Brand, Design, Content, Growth and Technology to deliver cohesive digital experiences
  • Manage relationships with senior stakeholders across Growth, Product Marketing, Field Marketing, Content, Design and Technology
  • Oversee external development partners and suppliers
  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for websites and web platforms for scalability and resilience
  • Maintain architecture, code quality, documentation, security, accessibility and reliability
  • Define scalable, secure and maintainable architectures; guide decisions across the current estate and future platform
  • Champion engineering standards and best practices across architecture and development
  • Explore AI-enabled web experiences and emerging capabilities in partnership with Technology and Product
  • Lead the consolidation programme to a modern headless WordPress architecture with go-live targeted for late 2026/early 2027
  • Collaborate with Brand, Content, Marketing and stakeholders to align platform with business needs
  • Lead architecture, migration, integrations, governance, and scalability decisions for the new platform
  • Ensure long-term sustainability and establish a roadmap beyond initial transformation
  • Turn business objectives into effective web experiences by partnering with Growth, Product Marketing, Field Marketing, Content and Design
  • Define and monitor KPIs for performance, conversion, SEO, reliability and user experience
  • Use data to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure technology investment delivers measurable value
  • Balance technical debt, innovation, operational needs, and commercial priorities

Key requirements

  • Significant experience leading web engineering, web technology, or digital development functions
  • Strong track record of managing and developing engineering teams
  • Experience owning complex websites or digital platforms across multiple brands, markets or environments
  • Strong understanding of modern web architecture, CMS platforms and headless approaches
  • Experience with WordPress, AEM, AWS, Next.js and TypeScript
  • Proven experience leading major website transformation, migration, consolidation or platform programmes
  • Strong understanding of web performance, SEO, accessibility, security and reliability
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate between technical, creative, marketing and commercial perspectives
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to connect technology decisions to measurable business outcomes
  • Proven track record in developing people and creating a high-performing engineering culture
  • Judgement to know when to lead through others and when to be hands-on to unblock delivery or raise engineering quality
