Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead complex rail traction power and HV substation projects within the Electrification & Power team, ensuring technically sound, compliant, and commercially viable outcomes. You’ll serve as CRE/Lead Engineer, guiding design delivery across feasibility to detailed design and construction support. You will work with cross-functional teams and clients to drive high-impact electrification projects across the UK and beyond. Responsibilities

• Act as CRE / Lead Engineer with full accountability for technical delivery and design approvals
• Lead complex traction power and substation design packages across all project stages
• Contribute to the technical direction and development of the Electrification & Power team
• Collaborate with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams for coordinated delivery
• Review and approve concept and detailed design documentation and calculations
• Maintain design assurance and governance across projects
• Undertake site visits and surveys to inform design and resolve issues
• Provide construction-stage design support and contribute to bids and proposals

Key requirements

• Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design
• Experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer
• Experience delivering complex projects from feasibility to detailed design
• Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and design teams
• Chartered status, or working towards chartership, or demonstrable principal-level experience
• Low voltage experience desirable but not essential
