Overview

In this role you will lead the development and validation of complex cell-based immunoassays to support Moderna’s clinical trials. You will work at the Immunoassays hub, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality and regulatory compliance. You’ll shape assay strategies, apply advanced workflows, and drive data generation across multiple therapeutic areas. Responsibilities

  • Serve as scientific contact for cell-based immunoassay development across clinical programs
  • Ensure quality and integrity of assigned projects supporting clinical trials
  • Design, develop, optimize, and execute cell-based immunoassays for clinical objectives
  • Lead assay qualification and validation to meet scientific, regulatory, and operational requirements
  • Perform clinical sample testing and analysis to generate robust datasets
  • Conduct testing in compliance with GCP/GLP requirements
  • Deliver high-quality data within timelines and industry standards
  • Author technical and validation reports and study documentation
  • Identify and resolve quality issues and escalate when needed
  • Act as SME on multifunctional project teams as required
  • Present assay results and progress at project meetings to stakeholders
  • Collaborate to evaluate emerging technologies and innovative solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in cell culture, immunoassay development, and clinical sample analysis
  • Support continuous improvement to assay performance and data quality
  • Coach and train junior staff on procedures and compliance
  • Contribute to performance reviews for junior associates
  • Foster collaborative, inclusive lab environment
  • Ensure safety, quality, regulatory compliance at all times
  • Maintain training records and documentation
  • Provide overtime/weekend coverage as needed
  • Travel to trainings, conferences, and meetings
  • Report to Associate Director, Immuno-assay UK

Key requirements

  • PhD with >2 years or BSC/MSc with >6 years in immunology or related field with clinical assay validation in GLP/GCLP environment
  • Background in infectious diseases, virology, bacteriology or oncology; containment level 3 experience is advantageous
  • Experience with cell culture and cell-based assays, especially viral neutralization or bacteriology assays
  • Strong understanding of efficacy testing in clinical trial context
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with strong leadership and independence
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to influence and collaborate
  • Curiosity for new technologies and creative experimental design; collaborative mindset
  • Strong computational skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis software
  • Experience in regulated environments with GLP, GCP, ISO standards
