Overview

As Senior Engineer (Active and Sustainable Transport) you will lead the concept-to-delivery of active travel, public transport and urban realm schemes, shaping greener, safer transport networks in Leeds and beyond. You’ll mentor junior staff, engage with clients, and manage project delivery, timelines and quality. Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of active travel, public transport, and urban realm schemes
  • Prepare and review drawings, reports and specifications
  • Ensure outputs meet project briefs, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Delegate tasks to graduates and technicians and support their development
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality
  • Champion Health & Safety including CDM responsibilities
  • Report progress and risks to Principal Engineer or Project Manager
  • Guide scoping, concept, preliminary and detailed design of schemes
  • Apply relevant design standards (LTN 1/20, TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, Traffic Signs Manual)
  • Utilise active travel design auditing tools and scheme review tools
  • Proficiency in Civils 3D (desirable), AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (essential)
  • Knowledge of GIS, ReMix, PCT, Inclusive Mobility Guidance, Equity Impact Assessment (advantageous)

Key requirements

  • Proven experience in active travel and traffic engineering design
  • Strong knowledge of active travel design elements and general traffic engineering (drainage, junctions, carriageway improvements)
  • Familiarity with design standards and audit procedures
  • Experience in leading design outputs and project delivery
  • Ability to engage clients and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • CDM and health & safety practices
  • Proficiency in Civils 3D (desirable), AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (essential)
