In this role you will ensure accurate, timely weekly and monthly payrolls while collaborating with HR, Finance, and operations. Responsibilities
- Support end-to-end processing of weekly and monthly payrolls to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare, validate and submit payroll data within deadlines
- Process lifecycle changes (new hires, leavers, contract changes, salary adjustments)
- Administer variable payments (overtime, allowances, expenses, holiday pay, bonuses, deductions)
- Handle statutory payments/deductions (PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP, student loans, attachment of earnings)
- Manage pension administration (auto-enrolment, contributions, postponements, salary sacrifice)
- Maintain accurate payroll and employee records across systems
- Serve as first point of contact for payroll queries with confidentiality
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Complete payroll reconciliations and support journal preparation and reporting
- Produce payroll reports for Finance, HR, operations, and external stakeholders
- Support payroll audits, year-end activities and statutory reporting
- Ensure compliance with HMRC, employment and pension legislation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes
Key requirements
- End-to-end UK payroll processing experience
- Knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions and payroll legislation
- Strong numerical, analytical and reconciliation skills
- Experience with payroll and HR systems; intermediate/advanced Excel
- Ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; confidentiality
- CIPP qualification or progress toward it; experience with outsourced payroll and knowledge of pension auto-enrolment (advantageous)
