Overview

In this role you help clients design and deliver low-carbon, resilient estates as part of AECOM’s Sustainability & Decarbonisation Advisory team. You’ll shape whole-life carbon strategies for public and private sectors, collaborating with designers and stakeholders from design through construction. You’ll work across healthcare, education, commercial, and notably defence and national security, delivering certification and appraisal work at scale. Responsibilities

  • Develop and understand clients’ sustainability and decarbonisation requirements
  • Create, deliver, and review whole-life carbon reduction strategies using recognised frameworks (e.g., GLA, LETI & RIBA, RICS, BREEAM)
  • Engage with clients and designers early to implement strategies from design to construction
  • Deliver assessment certification schemes (BREEAM, DREAM; LEED/WELL advantageous)
  • Carry out sustainability appraisals (SAW, SEEAM)
  • Support project management and programming
  • Assist with work-winning activities including tender responses
  • Mentor junior staff to upskill the team

Key requirements

  • Strong knowledge of building design and construction process
  • Experience with WLCAs using OneClick LCA and with assessment schemes (BREEAM, DREAM) and sustainability appraisals
  • Strong numerical/analytical skills and ability to translate data into practical sustainability solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical presentations
  • High attention to detail and methodical problem solving
  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects and workloads
  • Experience with sustainable buildings, low-carbon design, and environmental performance
  • Understanding of broader sustainability issues and mitigation on projects
  • Familiarity with current/future sustainability and decarbonisation policies and guidance
  • Willingness to work on Defence and National Security projects
