Overview

In this role you own the end-to-end delivery of PI audit engagements for high-profile clients, ensuring audit quality and regulatory compliance. You’ll lead client relationships, manage the engagement team, and drive financial performance within a culture of inclusion and professional integrity. You’ll contribute to growing the PI practice in Birmingham and the Midlands, tackling complex audit issues in a fast-paced environment. This is a high-visibility role for someone who shapes audit strategy and mentors others.

Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee audit strategy per engagement, including risk assessment and materiality, in line with ISAs (UK), firm methodology, and PI rules
  • Ensure high-quality audit files and exercises sound judgment on complex areas, escalating to the Engagement Leader when needed
  • Lead on enhanced PI auditor reporting, including key audit matters and going concern disclosures, preserving ethics and independence
  • Act as day-to-day client contact, lead meetings, and present findings to Audit Committees when appropriate
  • Proactively manage client expectations on timetable, deliverables and fees to minimize surprises
  • Lead engagement team on a day-to-day basis, coaching Assistant Managers and Associates and contributing to talent development and inclusion
  • Own engagement budgets, take corrective action to avoid overruns, and discuss scope changes with clients
  • Plan and manage the full audit cycle from planning to completion, coordinating specialist input as needed
  • Produce or review client deliverables to a high technical standard
  • Adhere to risk management policies and maintain professional competence through mandatory training

Key requirements

  • Fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA, CA, ICAS, ICAEW or international equivalent)
  • Experience planning, leading and delivering major external audit engagements in a managerial capacity
  • Proven technical expertise in ISAs (UK), UK GAAP and IFRS with PI regulatory knowledge
