Overview

In this role you will prepare Bills of Costs for Detailed and Provisional Assessment and manage litigation of bills through court. You’ll support fee earners, advise clients, and may advocate in court, while helping train junior team members. The position sits in a growing national Costs team, offering exposure to both in-house and external costs drafting environments. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure accurate, timely cost processes and client service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment
  • Litigate bills through the Court process
  • Possibly provide advocacy in Court as agreed with Costs Partner
  • Interact with clients to take instructions and offer advice
  • Provide technical support to fee earners
  • Train junior team members when needed

Key requirements

  • Experience in costs drafting, in-house or with an external supplier
  • Basic knowledge of legal procedures
  • Proven experience with IT systems and time recording procedures
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across the business
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Desirable: ACL qualification or CILEX Part 1 Year 1
  • Desirable: Experience in one or more legal departments
