Overview

As Technical Director for Strategy & Transformation – Energy Transition, you will lead a new capability and drive market-facing advisory in energy transition. You’ll shape engagements, inspire cross-functional teams, and build a distinctive offering for decarbonisation and infrastructure transformation. You will engage executives, regulators, and major clients to deliver value through strategic planning, investment, and implementation roadmaps. This role blends client leadership with business growth, capability development, and market influence, in a globally connected, employee-owned firm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior leadership for the Strategy & Transformation – Energy Transition capability, defining market priorities and growth opportunities.
  • Originate, shape and win strategic consulting engagements across energy transition strategy, policy, system planning, decarbonisation programmes.
  • Lead complex advisory and transformation engagements from opportunity identification through delivery, ensuring quality and client outcomes.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders including executives, regulators, investors and utility organisations.
  • Provide strategic oversight across programmes involving operating model design, investment planning, roadmaps, governance, risk and benefits realisation.
  • Build and strengthen strategic client relationships, supporting pipeline development and long-term partnerships.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, commercially effective solutions.
  • Prepare high-quality client deliverables such as business cases, transformation strategies and executive recommendations.
  • Represent GHD at industry events, thought leadership and business development activities.
  • Mentor and develop consultants and advisory leaders, contributing to capability growth and team culture.

Key requirements

  • Typically 12+ years of relevant consulting or senior industry experience in energy, infrastructure, policy or business transformation.
  • Executive-level credibility with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Proven track record of originating, shaping, winning and delivering major engagements in energy, infrastructure or regulated sectors.
  • Deep understanding of UK energy transition drivers including decarbonisation and energy system planning.
  • Ability to translate complex client challenges into propositions, investment cases and implementation programmes.
  • Experience growing pipelines and supporting sales in a consulting/advisory environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience managing project performance and outcomes.
  • Experience building teams, capability development and growth of advisory practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation and communication, including executive presentations and leadership of senior workshops.
