Overview
You will lead the indirect tax function for Zurich UK and Isle of Man, delivering robust VAT processes while managing risk in a regulated environment. As part of an established in-house tax team, you’ll supervise a four-person team and partner with UK & Isle of Man Finance to influence financial reporting and decision making. The role combines governance, process improvement and stakeholder engagement across the business and with HMRC. Responsibilities
- Oversee a team of four tax professionals
- Manage UK VAT returns for the UK and Isle of Man, including partial exemption applications
- Handle VAT registration/de-registration, group VAT issues and option to tax matters
- Oversee UK IPT returns and Foreign Premium Tax returns
- Reconcile control accounts to source systems and support financial reporting
- Maintain relationships with HMRC and manage queries, reviews and audits
- Develop governance and process documentation for VAT compliance
- Identify and implement improvements to VAT cycle efficiency and accuracy
- Coordinate with UK and Isle of Man Finance and external suppliers to collect timely information
Key requirements
- Significant UK VAT compliance experience
- Strong understanding of partial exemption, VAT grouping, and cross-border VAT
- Experience in Insurance Premium Tax (desirable)
- Experience leading or supervising a team
- Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders (Finance, market units, external advisors, HMRC)
- Strong communication skills for explaining tax issues to non-tax stakeholders
- Experience in financial services and/or insurance (preferable)
- 5 years ACA/ACCA/CTA post-qualification experience
