Overview

In this role you ensure the financial health of a portfolio of active projects within a busy, multi-project engineering environment. You act as the finance partner to programme managers and senior stakeholders, delivering robust control, reporting and commercial insight. You will translate operational activity into accurate financial data while balancing tight deadlines. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role that shapes financial governance and project forecasting in collaboration with the delivery teams.

Responsibilities

  • Sign off financial assumptions for new customer proposals
  • Construct project plans and work packages to support future bids
  • Own forecast cycle and flag deviations from budget
  • Maintain accurate cost data, allocations and hours bookings across projects
  • Identify and manage financial risk within the project portfolio
  • Produce monthly project reviews and forecast-to-completion updates
  • Support month-end close with correct accounting treatment across projects
  • Serve as first point of contact for project-related finance queries
  • Respond to ad hoc financial requests from the programme
  • Ensure compliance with internal policy, standards and risk management
  • Maintain project financial data in the ERP system and liaise on reporting changes
  • Support internal and external audit processes

Key requirements

  • Solid background in financial controlling and/or project/programme reporting
  • Strong grasp of core accounting principles
  • Confident written and verbal communicator with strong report-writing skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Good understanding of work package management and control
  • Working knowledge of risk management principles
  • Methodical, organised approach to planning and tracking
  • Professional accountancy qualification, or actively working towards one (part-qualified considered)
