Overview

In this role you will drive the GOV.UK publishing ecosystem within the Publishing Service to deliver accurate, timely information to the public. You will work with cross-functional teams to shape a clear, evidence-based product vision and a multi-horizon roadmap. You will translate user needs into measurable outcomes, test ideas with low-cost experiments, and partnerships with leadership to maximise program impact. This is a hands-on, impact-focused opportunity to influence government content delivery at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver and iteratively improve the product across cycles
  • Develop deep understanding of user needs and champion them in delivery
  • Define and refine an evidence-based product vision for users, teams, and stakeholders
  • Maintain a roadmap and strategy across different horizons
  • Create and prioritize a product backlog with effective user stories and value-based decisions
  • Identify assumptions and risks, integrating them into planning
  • Work with teams to prototype and test assumptions at strategic and usability levels
  • Apply test-and-learn approaches where appropriate
  • Set measurable product goals and report on progress against benefits
  • Share insights with leadership to inform strategy
  • Support the vision, roadmaps, and delivery of other products within the programme and GDS
  • Explore data-driven personalization opportunities
  • Engage users and stakeholders to drive adoption
  • Build services in line with the Service Manual principles
  • Adapt approaches to the lifecycle phase of work
  • Communicate and challenge constraints as needed
  • Create and continuously improve product documentation
  • Engage with the government product management community to share learning

Key requirements

  • Proven track record in developing and releasing digital products using agile techniques
  • Experience with roadmaps, backlog management, user stories, MVPs, and evidence-based decisions
  • Understanding of cross-disciplinary delivery (engineering, content design, service design, performance analysis, user research)
  • Experience engaging users, commissioning research, and turning insights into product improvements
  • Strong stakeholder management to deliver user-centered outcomes and business value
  • Ability to evaluate ROI/value for money and monitor performance objectives
  • Using data and analytics to identify issues and assess feature or experiment outcomes
