Responsibilities
- Collaborate with designers, clients, and others to deliver system safety compliance and safety products under the Lead Systems Safety Engineer
- Support Employer’s safety processes per Railway Systems Safety Management Plan in Phases 1/2a
- Hazard identification and risk assessment with system designers to identify and mitigate hazards
- Define safety requirements and ensure their integration into design and development
- Aid safety case development with evidence-based arguments for safe operation
- Assist in safety analyses (FTA, FMEA, PHA) to evaluate performance and issues
- Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software engineers to embed safety in design and operation
- Assist in compliance activities and participate in audits to verify safety measures
- Participate in incident investigations and contribute to corrective actions
- Produce reports to the lead systems safety engineer
Key requirements
- Engineering background with strong safety principles
- Problem-solving and analytical capabilities for hazard assessment and mitigation
- Clear communication of complex safety information to technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborative mindset to work with cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders
- Experience in a safety engineering role, preferably in rail
- Education in engineering or related field; additional safety qualifications advantageous
