Overview
As Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer (Water) you will lead the maintenance and safe operation of water systems at Southmead Hospital, guiding the water hygiene team within HTM-aligned schemes. You’ll supervise subcontractors, manage planned and reactive tasks, and ensure compliance via digital logging. The role is central to delivering reliable water services, maintaining safety, and supporting cross-functional facilities operations. You will work with a stable team to uphold high standards and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
- Supervise water hygiene team and lead maintenance activities per Written Scheme of Control
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of water systems and related plant/equipment
- Maintain qualification as Authorised, Responsible Person for Water and Pool Plant Operator
- Oversee subcontractors and manage contractors within safety and permit-to-work systems
- Record, analyse and report water system maintenance using Zetasafe
- Ensure timely attendance of PPM and reactive tasks per contract timescales
- Support cross-functional collaboration and training to broaden skills
Key requirements
- Recognised mechanical trade apprenticeship and/or Level 3 mechanical qualifications
- Experience in plumbing and essential across mechanical services
- Supervisory experience in a building services or facilities environment
- Strong understanding of building services installation, maintenance, testing and fault finding
- Ability to read technical drawings and diagnose faults
- Independent worker with team collaboration and cross-skilling willingness
- Good customer service and communication, both written and verbal
