In this senior leadership role, you will shape the Birmingham and Midlands planning practice, steering complex development and strategic land work. You will collaborate across design, masterplanning and transport teams to deliver integrated, commercially robust planning outcomes. You’ll grow client partnerships, mentor a rising team and influence regional strategy and culture. Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape growth of the Birmingham and wider Midlands planning practice
  • Advise key public and private sector clients on complex planning matters
  • Head major planning projects including strategic land promotion, planning applications, appeals and inquiries
  • Contribute to Local Plan strategy, examinations and land allocation work
  • Drive business development and convert new opportunities in the Midlands
  • Mentor and develop a growing team of planners
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders to deliver integrated, design-led and commercially robust outcomes
  • Strengthen external profile and presence in the Midlands planning market
  • Shape strategy, culture and growth beyond project delivery

Key requirements

  • Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) at Director level or experienced Associate Director ready for broader leadership
  • Strong technical expertise in development management and/or plan-making
  • Proven Midlands planning market track record
  • Experience with planning applications, appeals, inquiries and Local Plan examinations
  • Strong commercial mindset with client engagement and business development capabilities
  • Collaborative leadership style with ability to mentor and develop teams
  • Ability to provide clear, commercially aware advice on complex planning challenges
