Overview

In this leadership role you will define and execute the UK Construction & Engineering portfolio strategy to drive sustainable profitable growth. You will lead a market-facing team of underwriters, aligning portfolio objectives with business goals while working with brokers, clients and internal partners. Expect to optimize performance, foster innovation, and ensure governance and risk discipline. This is a high-impact role that shapes QBE’s market position through strong leadership and client-facing engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the UK Construction & Engineering portfolio strategy
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market trends and opportunities to optimise results
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across underwriting, distribution and portfolio management
  • Lead underwriting performance, risk selection and alignment with appetite and authority frameworks
  • Partner with Pricing, Portfolio Management, Risk Solutions and Claims to enhance profitability
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing underwriting team
  • Build and maintain broker, client and trading partner relationships to support growth
  • Ensure governance, regulatory compliance and risk management across the portfolio

Key requirements

  • Significant Construction & Engineering underwriting experience in the UK
  • Established broker and client network in the sector
  • Proven success in developing and delivering portfolio strategies for profitable growth
  • Commercial, financial and analytical capability with data-driven decision making
  • Experience managing underwriting portfolios across varying market conditions
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing underwriting teams
