Senior Sales Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Solutions Engineer, you act as the primary technical resource for the Account Executives, shaping customer solutions and validating value through demonstrations and POVs. You’ll understand client requirements, design suitable architectures, and guide trials to showcase Sumo Logic’s capabilities. You’ll collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to share customer insights and improve the service. This role combines deep technical engagement with cross-functional influence to drive customer success in a dynamic startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Account Executives to understand customer challenges and articulate Sumo Logic’s value proposition, vision, and strategy to customers
• technically close complex opportunities through advanced competitive knowledge, technical skill, and credibility
• Lead technical validations during the Proof of Value phase and oversee all phases of the sales cycle
• Engage with executives down to developers and Site Reliability Engineers to build trusted relationships
• Deliver product and technical demonstrations of the Sumo Logic service
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management and Engineering to improve the service based on customer feedback

Key requirements

• 5+ years in a Solutions Engineer/related role or as a Solutions Architect/Sales Engineer/Implementation Consultant/Support Engineer/SRE/Software Developer with customer-facing leadership experience
• Hands-on knowledge of security products and related technologies (IDS/IPS, SIEM/Log Management, Threat Detection, Incident Response, MSSP/MDR, Threat Feeds, CASB)
• Experience with open source collections (Telegraf, FluentBit, FluentD, Open Telemetry)
• Experience leading technical validations like Proof of Value
• Experience selling and supporting pure SaaS multi-tenant solutions
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure (certification preferred)
• Broad understanding of technical infrastructure (servers, networking, storage)
• Knowledge of modern app architecture (microservices, containers) and experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or Lambda (preferred)
• Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog, Elastic, New Relic)
• Startup or fast-paced environment experience (preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication, with business and technical acumen
